52 Stories, Week of August 4th
Summer has brought the library several personnel changes:
Jeff Holstein, Librarian, has retired. He began in 2005 as a Library Assistant, and he became Librarian in 2007. Jeff’s accomplishments include managing the library’s student workers and implementing an iPad lending program in conjunction with the Math and Computer Science departments. We wish him the best and thank him for his service to the Red Rocks community, knowing that he will be missed. Jeff’s last day was July 18th.
Dina Hornreich, Reference & Instruction Librarian, has accepted a position at Fort Lewis College, where she will be the Instruction, Reference and Assessment Coordinator/Librarian beginning fall semester. As Interim Director at Red Rocks, Dina initiated many exciting changes to the library environment and services, including a re-imagining of the library’s teaching space–formerly known as the Gateway Room–now known as the Sandstone Room. We wish her well in her next adventure in Durango. Dina’s last day was July 31st.
After these two departures, we are pleased to say hello again to Julia Havelick. Many of you may remember Julia, as she worked on both the Lakewood and Arvada campuses from March through May. She’ll be continuing her work on the collection assessment project, teaching customized library instruction classes online and in-person, and on the library’s web site. If you see her, be sure to say hello and congratulate her as well: in May, she walked the stage at DU to officially receive her MLIS (Master’s in Library and Information Science).
If you’re doing the staffing math, you may realize that, even with Julia back, this leaves Pat Dunn and me shorthanded for the start of fall semester, as Patricia Pacheco’s position was never filled after she retired. External searches for two full-time, permanent, librarian positions, Instruction Librarian and Access Librarian, are currently underway. We hope to have them filled by late September/early October. Wish us luck!
